Week Ahead: Patch Tuesday Preview and Staying Safe from Phishing
It's Monday 19 October 2026, and that means it's time to look at the week ahead. The big news is Patch Tuesday tomorrow, when Microsoft is expected to release fixes for more than 60 security vulnerabilities. While many of these will affect business systems, some will impact the devices families use every day.
The advice is simple: make sure automatic updates are enabled on your devices, and if you're prompted to restart, do it. Don't put it off. The same goes for phones and tablets, as Apple often releases updates around the same time.
DarkWatch, our monitoring partner, has logged 142,374 captures, 28,217 entities, and 2,725 alerts this week. There are 9 active targets being monitored closely, but this isn't a cause for alarm. It simply means researchers are keeping an eye on specific areas.
What does matter for households is the ongoing threat from phishing. Scammers continue to send emails and texts pretending to be from delivery firms, asking for fake parcel fees, or claiming you have an unpaid bill. The rule is always the same: don't click the link. Go to the official app or website instead.
If you receive an email claiming your data was in a breach, don't panic and don't click anything in the email. Go directly to the company's website to check. A second pair of eyes also helps, so if you're unsure, ask someone you trust.
Stay safe, and we'll be back tomorrow with more.
