How to remove your home address from Companies House (form SR01)

Short answer: if your home address is on the public Companies House register, you can apply on form SR01 to have it removed. It costs £34 per document, payable through GOV.UK Pay, and you must include the payment reference on your form or it will be rejected. Not every address qualifies: the address must have been used as your service ("correspondence") address or as the company's registered office.

Why your address is on the register

Companies House keeps the public register of UK companies. Directors, company secretaries, people with significant control (PSCs) and LLP members appear on it, and their details are public by law so that anyone can check who runs a company. That public interest is legitimate — which is also why removal is limited to defined categories of personal detail, and why it is not automatic.

If you are not sure what is showing, look up the company on Companies House and work through its filing history. Each document that contains the details you want removed is a separate charge.

Who form SR01 is for

SR01 is for individuals in relation to a UK company — for example a director, company secretary, person with significant control (PSC), or LLP member whose personal details appear on the public register.

What SR01 can remove

For an individual, form SR01 can remove:

  • your home address;
  • the day of your date of birth — but only from documents filed before 10 October 2015;
  • your signature — on certain documents only, not printed names;
  • your business occupation — only where the occupation was required, for example on a director's appointment form (AP01).

The fee: £34 per document

Companies House charges £34 to remove your personal details from each document. If your details appear on several documents, you pay per document listed in your application. Payment is made through GOV.UK Pay, and the payment reference must be included on your form — a form without it is rejected.

A note on old figures: some pages still quote £55. That figure is stale. The current published fee is £34 per document, as shown on the GOV.UK guidance page last updated 23 February 2026.

Step-by-step: apply on form SR01

  1. Identify every document that contains the details you want removed. You pay per document, so list them carefully.
  2. Read "How to complete the form SR01" on GOV.UK before you start — it explains what each field expects.
  3. Complete form SR01 with the details, the documents, and the information required for your circumstances.
  4. Pay £34 per document through GOV.UK Pay.
  5. Write the payment reference on the form. Without it, the application is rejected.
  6. Post the form to: The Registrar of Companies, PO Box 4082, Cardiff CF14 3WE.
  7. Watch for the notice after processing. After removal, for a UK address Companies House will show only the first half of your postcode.

Eligibility and the catches

  • The address must qualify. You can apply to remove a home address only if it was used as your service/correspondence address or as the company's registered office.
  • Active officer, current address. If you still hold an active position and the address is your current address, you must provide a replacement address.
  • Registered office cases. If the home address was used as the registered office and the company is still active, you must change the registered office first. If the company is dissolved, you must wait 6 months before applying.
  • Serving officers must supply an alternative address so the company remains contactable.
  • False statements are an offence, and a removal can be reversed if you are found guilty of making one.

If you are at risk of violence or intimidation

There is a separate route on forms SR02/SR03, intended for cases where the company's activities put you, or anyone at that address, at risk of serious violence or intimidation. These forms are requested by email from [email protected] and require a statement and supporting evidence. Processing takes at least 30 days, up to a year, and a refusal can be appealed to the High Court (the Court of Session in Scotland) within 28 days.

GOV.UK's guidance page does not state a fee for the SR02/SR03 route, so we cannot confirm what it costs; check with Companies House before relying on any figure.

What this does not do

  • It does not remove the company or its records. The company's filing history remains public; SR01 removes specified personal details, not the company.
  • It does not remove details that are not eligible. Addresses used as a business address, and the day-of-birth limitation for post-October 2015 documents, cannot be changed through SR01.
  • It does not remove data already copied. Once register data has been republished or downloaded, removal from Companies House does not recall those copies.
  • It does not remove you from other registers. Land Registry titles and court or insolvency records are public by law and have their own rules; there is no equivalent SR01 form for them.
