CyberAware UK is a scam awareness and digital safety information service operated by an independent UK-based team. This privacy policy explains how we handle your personal data when you visit our website.

2. What data we collect

We collect very little data. Specifically:

2.1 Newsletter subscriptions (via Buttondown)

When you subscribe to our newsletter via the email signup forms on our site, your email address is sent to Buttondown (https://buttondown.com), a third-party email newsletter service. We store your email address solely for the purpose of sending you email updates.

2.2 Website analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first, cookie-free analytics service. Plausible does not track you across websites, does not use cookies, and does not collect any personal data. It provides us with anonymous aggregate data such as page views, referrer sources, and browser types.

2.3 Server logs

Our web server (hosted behind Cloudflare) records standard HTTP request data including your IP address, browser user agent, and the pages you visit. These logs are retained for a maximum of 7 days for security monitoring and troubleshooting purposes. They are not shared with any third party.

2.4 Donations (via Ko-fi)

3. Cookies

We do not use cookies for tracking or analytics. Our analytics provider (Plausible) does not use cookies. The only cookies that may be set are those strictly necessary for Cloudflare's content delivery network (CDN) functionality. These are session-based and do not store personal data.

4. How we use your data

We use your email address only to:

• Send you our newsletter (if you subscribed)
• Respond to you if you contact us via the Ask page

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data. We do not share your data with any third parties except as described in section 2 above.

5. Data retention

• Email addresses: retained until you unsubscribe
• Server logs: deleted after 7 days
• Plausible analytics: retained indefinitely in aggregate (anonymised) form
