It's Friday, welcome back to CyberAware UK. I am here with Alex, and today we're doing our weekend prep, a look back at the week and a fresh checklist to keep your family safe. Sounds good. So what's on the list for this weekend? First, a quick roundup. This week we saw a lot of stories about AI being used in sneaky ways, like poisoning search results and coding tools leaking private code. That's a bit worrying. But what should normal people do about that? Mostly it's a reminder to be careful what you click on and to keep your software updated. But today, let's focus on something more immediate, your home Wi-Fi and smart devices. Right, because a lot of us have smart speakers, cameras, and even doorbells now. What's the risk? If those devices aren't updated, they can be used by criminals to spy on you or to attack other people. And many people never change the default passwords. So what's the first thing to do? Start with your router. Change the admin password if you've never done it. Use something long and unique, not the one printed on the box. Make sure it's strong and that you're using WPA2 or WPA3 encryption. If your router is old and only offers WEP, it's time to ask your provider for a new one. Got it. Now, what about all those smart devices? Check for firmware updates. Most have an app where you can see if there's an update available. Do that tonight. And if a device is no longer supported, what then? If it's not getting updates, consider replacing it or at least putting it on a separate guest network so it can't talk to your main devices. That's a good tip. Anything else from this week we should mention. There was a story about a data broker losing its domains after a privacy fight. That's more about corporate data, but it reminds us to check what information about us is online. How can someone do that? You can search your name and email on H-A-V-E-I-B-E-E-N-P-W-N-E-D dot com to see if you've been in a breach. If you have, change that password and enable two-factor authentication where you can. And finally, any quick wins for the weekend? Yes, back up your important files. Use an external drive or a cloud service, and make sure it's automatic. That way, if something goes wrong, you don't lose everything. That's our takeaway then. Back up your data and update your router. Thanks for listening, and stay safe online. We'll be back on Monday. Until then, keep your devices updated and your passwords strong. Cheers!
