2 · Report itReport to Action Fraud (0300 123 2040 / actionfraud.police.uk) or call 101. Get a crime reference number.
3 · Keep evidenceScreenshot texts, emails, caller numbers and payment screens. Change passwords and turn on 2-step verification.
Holiday Booking Scams — Checklist
Before you pay a deposit or book a holiday, run through this checklist.
- Reverse image search each photo using Google Images or TinEye
- Verify the property address on Google Maps Street View
- Search for independent reviews outside the listing platform
- Check ABTA or ATOL protection for package holidays
- Pay by credit card for Section 75 protection on bookings over £100
- Never pay by bank transfer for a social media or classified ad listing
- Be suspicious of prices significantly below market rate
- Register with FCDO at gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice
